Interventional procedures are a sub-specialty of radiology which use minimally invasive image-guided procedures to diagnose and treat diseases in nearly every organ system. At Saint Imaging, our highly trained Radiologists perform these procedures. These types of procedures are beneficial as they have less risk, less pain and less recovery time in comparison to open surgery. The procedures usually involve either the injection of medication or the removal of tissue, such as biopsies.
All our interventions are performed by our Radiologists, in conjunction with our technical staff, to ensure maximum safety and comfort throughout the procedure.
These procedures are undertaken using ultrasound guidance. These techniques act as visual guides to assist in the undertaking of the procedure.
Core Biopsies are usually performed on soft tissue lesions with ultrasound guidance. Depending on the clinical setting, our specialist will determine whether a Fine Needle Biopsy or Core Biopsy is performed. Core Biopsies involve using a larger needle when compared to the Fine Needle Biopsy. Local anaesthetic is administered to make the procedure as comfortable as possible for the patient.
Musculoskeletal injections are a safe and modern procedure which offers pain relief in the form of a hip, knee, elbow or shoulder injection. These cortisone injections are typically considered when physiotherapy and oral medication have been tried and the pain is still not tolerable.
Musculoskeletal injections are often considered before surgery is contemplated or if surgery is not possible. These injections deliver powerful medications directly to the area that is the source of the pain and are usually much more effective than tablets.
Ultrasound-guided nerve block of extremities is a safe and effective method that can be used for pain management and conditions with nerve entrapment like Carpal tunnel syndrome.
